Remove the SIM give it a clean / wipe? Chances are its just got dust or something causing problems. Give the sim slot a blow too (giggity)? And of course restart the phone.

EDIT: Also in future it be great if you could have slightly more descriptive title like 'iPhone 5C Sim problems'...

I have an iPhone 5c on US Cellular. The sim card is saying that it is invalid and I can no longer send or receive any texts. I have not updated to iOS 8 at all yet, would that help my problem?

If it just happened out of nowhere then it's likely an issue on the carrier end, as SIM cards don't just die.
