Gigabyte G1 gaming GTX 970 for OC'ing

MSI for Silence/Slightly less OC/Slightly quieter.

The Gigabyte G1 is still pretty damn quiet though

Gigabyte or MSI if you want to overclock, the ASUS one is just bad for that.

I can get my Strix 980s as high, if not higher than most of the reviews stated. 1600Mhz core clock is pretty nifty. Overclocking isn't really manufacturer based, it's a lottery that spans all the cards. I will say though that they'd probably be able to maintain the clocks for longer with a better cooler - Not that the DCU 2 thing is bad, it's just I'm sure there's better :)

I would, but I think most of the after market coolers are pretty good these days. It depends on which one offers you the best customer service, warranty and which one fits your colour scheme best.

But my point mainly was that overclocking is a lottery. It doesn't matter which company you buy from, there's good and bad overclockers from them all and it's just pure luck that you'll get one that overclocks well.

If you're just playing CS:GO and that's the only game you'll play with it, any 970 will be silent - Doesn't matter which one you pick since you wont be overclocking. Pick the one with the best warranty and/or best colours to match your build.

Set your FPS_MAX to 120 in the console and you'll never stress the card meaning the fans will barely spin. Valve games benefit greatly from having stable frame rates that are double your refresh rate. I don't know why, I just remember that seeming to help a lot during my comp TF2 days.

OCing results are mostly based on the silicon lottery and not which brand it is.

I have used both the MSI TwinFrozr and the ASUS DCUII coolers on older cards and they both perform great, Cool and Quiet.

the one i use is directcu and its not low..never eard it tho the fan spins fast

so yea, it seems to me that any of those 3 will be great for you. I think the gigabyte is a little longer than the other 2. I had an MSI 290x Twin Frozr in my Tiny mATX case (fractal node 804) which doesn't fit the biggest of cards. I now have 2 Asus Strix 980s in there and they also fit fine. The Gigabyte Windforce cards wont fit in there, so that's something to take into consideration if you have a smaller case like I do. (I really recommend my case btw! It's epic)

took your advice and checked the case dimensions any of those will be fine since the gigabyte is the one with 300 mm:

lol, I went overboard on my last upgrade and I'm still not quite done with it (ROG Swift is next on my list!). You can check my sig for my rig if you wanna see what I put together. I'm mostly super impressed that I was able to build a computer so powerful into a case so small! Gone are the days where enthusiasts have to build EATX motherboards into massive tower cases. The Fractal Node 804 and Corsair Air 240 are really good little cases for builds like mine. When my friends see my PC, they call it stupid but when they see what it can do and what it has in it, they change their tune really quickly :P

No they are not. He asked about the 970 which has a TDP of 145 and only 1 8 pin power connecter leaving 5 TDP for overclocking headroom, they are shit for overclocking.

Linus got them to around 1500 mhz on core clocks.

And 1500 mhz is amazing

Strix is gud
