Should I be able to upgrade by CPU to a i7 4790k without reinstalling windows?

I don't see why you would have to reinstall windows

Yes, but there is a possibility it will reject the hardware change, and say it's an unofficial version

You should be fine, it may ask for your Windows product key though.

Windows may think it's on a different computer and ask for you're product key

Nah I've done that dozens of times, never asked me for a key or freaked.

Now if you switched the mobo and a bunch of hardware it asks for a product key

but you should be good

It shouldn't ask me for a product key, since I'm running windows 10
