Making my HDD quieter

Go to solution Solved by Freaky_spider,

get an SSD?

only way (i can think of) to make it more silent.

Hi guys.

Some of you may know that I built an SFF system not too long ago. I also recently modded it and I'm currently in the process of making it quieter.

I already have my HDD in a box (Scythe Himuro), but it's still the loudest component. I checked it for errors and it is just fine.

Do you have any ideas on how to make it quieter?

honestly. I would switch my HDD to a quieter one or buy an SSD for that. Everything else costs too much money for what you get.

Maybe you can get sound dampening material for your case? That might actually work.

replace case screws with rubber grommets it'll be a tight fit, but it'll be worth it if you do enough to secure all four points, seriously it'll be almost as quite as an ssd .. take care of good quality rubber  so that it wont melt & stick to the exterior during high intensity work load!

Details separate people.

Yes get a SSD ahah, because your OS will keep looking for data on your hard drive every minute or even every second making it spin pretty much all times so by having the silent SSD taking all those data loading for the OS and your hard drive when you actually need something on it will make your PC way less louder.

Rubber joints, foam isolation (not very good for thermals...) and if it's a multimedia/SFF you might switch to 2,5" HDDs tho I don't like them... or SSDs

I thought about this just after posting the topic and it really seems like the best idea. I just checked and all my games could fit onto a 120GB SSD, but I will wait for a good deal on a 240+GB one. Thanks for reassuring me that this is a good idea.

This is also an option I thought about, but I wouldn't be able to block most of the panels as it is an SFF build and it needs all the air it can get.
