I just bought a new case, an i5-4590, and a new motherboard, z97X-SLI. I bought them together on newegg, and after assembling, idle temperatures are 60-70 C and when ever I start any basic game, minecraft to tf2, nothing too demanding, it easily reaches 100 C. I have no clue what's going to but to say the least I'm scared. I have the stock fan on, but i've never heard of someone getting this high temp with the stock cooler. Should I get a new cooler or is it an issue with my case? The case I just bought is the NZXT S340.

I would make sure that you installed the cooler correctly and tightly. If it is then I would try re-applying thermal paste.

You can buy it anywhere that sells Pc parts pretty much

What they said as well

Someone told Luke and Linus at CES 2017 to "Unban the legend known as Jerakl" and that's about all I've got going for me. (It didn't work)

Re-install the cooler apply new thermal paste

Nvidia is to Dr Dre Beets as AMD is to KFC.

One makes you broke, the other you can get more of and have a midnight snack from the fridge when hungry again. Once you go Nvidia, you go broked, turn into an Elitist, or get the incorrect amount of VRAM.

I was only 9 years old. I loved Fifflaren so much, I had all the NiP merchandise and matches pirated. I prayed to Fifflaren every night before bed. Thanking him for the life I have been given. Fifflaren is love I say. Fifflaren is life. My dad hears and calls me a fuckhead. I knew he was just jelly of my passion for Fifflaren. I called him a Sw@yer. He hits me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now, and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel someone touching me. I feel someone touching me. It's Fifflaren. I am so happy. He whispers in my ear; "this is my pyjama". He grabs me with his powerful Swedish hands and puts me on my hands and knees. I'm ready. I spread my ass cheeks for Fifflaren. He penetrates my butt-hole. It hurts so much but I do it for Fifflaren. I can feel my butt tearing as my eyes start to water. I push against his force. I want to please Fifflaren. He roars a viking roar as he fills my butt with his love. My dad walks in. Fifflaren looks straight into his eyes and says; "He is a ninja now". Fifflaren is love, Fifflaren is life

If you're on a budget, get a CoolerMaster Hyper 212.

Fits in your case and is a great budget cooler.

Please be sure to use iso-propyl alcohol or Methylated spirits to clean the existing paste off your CPU.

^This.

If you wish to remove and reinstall the stock cooler, you will need to apply fresh thermal paste, as thermal paste/pads are not reusable.

First, wet a lens cleaning cloth or another similar lint free soft cloth with 99% isopropyl alcohol (don't soak it) and rub the old thermal paste off the heatsink and CPU. Keep rubbing with fresh alcohol until the cloth comes away completely clean. Next, take your thermal paste and apply a dot the size of about 1/3 to 1/2 of a green pea of thermal paste right in the center of the CPU. Then lower the heat sink onto it.

What has likely happened is that you have not properly pushed all 4 pushpins of the stock cooler down into the motherboard.

Still, Hyper 212 is way better, runs way cooler, and has a way better more secure mounting system that actually screws down. If you have $30, buy one.

I suggest MX2, MX4, or NTH1 thermal compound. Avoid Arctic Silver as it performs poorly, takes 200 hours to break in, and is capacitive, meaning if you get any where it doesn't belong it'll cook your mobo.

Intel Inside. Overweight guy in his 30's outside.
