Confused,need help

All right so i have a z77a-g45 from msi and i also have a i3-3220 along with it, i was thinking of getting a i7-4790k but i dont know with which platform to get it with (z97 or z87 ) i know that z97 mobos are new and all but that would require more money, you can use 4790k with z87 mobos right?

you can but you will need to update your BIOS first (which requires compatible cpu)

Yes, you may have to do a bios update upon installation, but yeah. It'l work just fine.

Z87 is technically compatible and its fine if you're actually getting a better deal that way. But if you go that route I would recommend double-checking the manufacturer's product page for the board you're looking at to make sure it actually got the BIOS update for -4790K compatibility. I think most did, but I wouldn't be certain enough to bet money on it.
