Mic Issues

I bought a headset and its got two cables, one for headphones and one for mic, my laptop only has one port for both and I'm not sure what I should do to make this headset work as both.

I would say get a usb adapter for it. you can probably pick them up for a couple of bucks at a local electronics store or off ebay. That's how I'd solve it anyway

That's pretty much the best way.  

You could also get a usb soundcard or an external dac

Either get an external card as people above have said, or buy a 4-pole adapter that combines the two jacks into one.
