Hey guys, I am updating my home server to have more capacity and was wondering if there are any suggestions.

I am using it as a file and media server

Currently have:

MSI H61 motherboard

Intel i3 - can't remember exact model, is 2nd gen

8gb ram

32gb sandisk boot SSD

2tb barracuda

8 port RAID controller (got it cheap)

Looking at:

New case (preferribly with Hotswap bays)

2 more 2tb HDD's in raid 5 with current one

Any other suggestions? (Trying to keep it under $300 of upgrades)

Intel i7 3770k @ 4.5GHz, Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H, Gigabyte GTX 770 4GB Windforce, 16GB G.Skill - NT 1600MHz, 250GB Samsung Evo SSD, 2x 1TB Seagate HDD, Corsair H100i CPU cooler w/Noctua Fans, 4x SP120, Fractal Design Define R4, LG W224T, Func MS-3, Apple Numeric Keyboard

You are using ECC memory right?

A good backup solution may come in handy.

If you don't use the money for anything else, then you could always buy another harddrive to add to your raid array
