Hello everybody,

Is the FX6300 good or no. I want to do editing with vegas pro. 1080p rendering ,gaming , web browsing and school works are my main uses for this comptuer. Is it any good? Will it last long for like 3-5 years with good care? I need help for this CPU. Thank you all. This is one of my builds with the FX 6300

it is decent for rendering about equal with a low end i5 but for single threaded applications it is not that good i would buy the 8320

Please follow your topics guys, it's very important! CoC F.A.Q  Please use the corresponding PC part picker link for your country USA, UK, Canada, AustraliaSpain, Italy, New Zealand and Germany

For editing I would suggest you use a slightly better CPU.

But overall it is a pretty decent CPU, just a little bit old.

it will physically last 3-5 years but will not last 3-5 years performance wise

currently rocking a 6300 at stock and it's treating me well. i edit and render 1080p videos and I can do a 20 minute one in about an hour or so, give or take.

my only problem is that the stock cooler will begin to fall apart after a few months. i had to upgrade to a better cooler because I averaged like 50C idle on it

it is decent for rendering about equal with a low end i5 but for single threaded applications it is not that good i would buy the 8320

Thank you all and yea Ill switch to the 8320. And for the cooler Ill upgrade later with an ssd.

For rendering and editing, which can take all the cores you can throw at it, I'd be a good idea to spend a bit more and get the FX 8320 or 8320E.

I like the CPU i have the same one it has been treating me well. Its a good starting CPU for new builders like myself. I like it because it has six cores which is pretty good for a hundred dollar CPU. With the stock cooler, i have i can overclock it to 3.8 Ghz and have idle temps roughly around 30 - 40 C. I would recommend getting a aftermarket thermal paste as that is what i did, It doesn't always take a aftermarket cooler to cool down your CPU sometimes you need a good thermal compound which can help with temperatures greatly.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

If you're jumping up to an 8 core AMD processor, you might want to jump up to a larger power supply too. While AMD is great for the value, they run hot and inefficiently, using quite a bit of power. Fractal makes a decent 750W PSU for about $70 if you get it from NCIX.

750w...no

get the 8320 (or 8320e if its the same price, it IS the same cpu with a base de-clock) and the ud3p board or msi gaming, you'll need the 8+2 power phase and its $10 more, you'll throttle otherwise.
oh and theres no difference between this and a 3570k according to linus' testing videos last time i checked they got +10%IPC with haswell but -10% overclocking. that is all.

As a person who overclocked a FX 6300 to 4.2GHz and saw a power consumption of 145ish watts, I feel the little bit of extra headroom would be a safe investment.

EDIT: 4.5 GHz

that costs 3 times as much too

That's because it's better & does job too faster than that FX.

You're over-exaggerating. an 8320,8350 or medium tier I5 will do great, no need for an I7

AMD CPUs are crap. Also for streaming/video editing i7's HTs are helpful.

@Manar

Do you have some kind of a max budget in mind?

Because for rendering and video editing there might be better solutions.

FX6300 wil not be bad, but also not be very great.

I think there are better solutions.

Also the mobo you choosed is not the most decent one, unfortunatly.

For a FX6300 @ stock it will be fine, but wenn you start to overclock, you can run into some thermal limits of the board.

Because it does not have the best quality vreg design.

I personaly think about a FX8320 or maybe if you could afford a Xeon E3-1231-V3, but its a bit depending on your budget.

if you could afford an i7-4770k or 4790k then that will be no brainer offcourse.

But i suppose that you are looking on a tighter budget.?

Hi there, are you looking at a budget of around 650CAD? Or is that just something you came up with?

If you can manage around $750, you can get something pretty good for your uses:

CPU: AMD FX-8320 3.5GHz 8-Core Processor  ($157.95 @ Vuugo)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($98.50 @ Vuugo)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LP 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($79.99 @ Memory Express)
Storage: Seagate  1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive  ($78.79 @ DirectCanada)
Video Card: XFX Radeon R9 280 3GB Double Dissipation Video Card  ($189.99 @ NCIX)
Case: Corsair 200R ATX Mid Tower Case  ($53.98 @ DirectCanada)
Power Supply: EVGA 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply  ($44.99 @ Memory Express)
Total: $739.17

I generally don't recommend AMD but in your case I think it makes sense. You're not looking at mega high end GPUs so most gaming scenarios wont suffer.

I also included a Hybrid drive for the increased OS performance.

@nokturrduk84 I share your preference for Intel too.. but at least provide constructive feedback. Spewing AMD is crap and you should buy an i7 wont convince anyone that wasn't going to buy an i7 anyway.

Could we know what games you actually play? Rendering/editing AMD is great for the price, but for some CPU bound games it isn't that great as Intel.
