Lost Coast was just Valves tech demo for HDR in Source engine. It's also old so it's not much of an stress test for modern systems. Nearly 9 years since release.

I recommend playing it with developers commentary, You you get some info on what they were trying to do with the tech and some additional game design talk. How they scrap element and puzzles from the game since they are not fun for the player.

And if you are fan of HL2 then you might want to also check out mod called Minerva

http://store.steampowered.com/app/235780/

It has fantastic level design and pacing. And if I remember correctly Valve hired the mod maker so whenever we get a new Valve game(whatever and whenever that will be) you will see some of that type of level design. That mod is like a preview of things to come.

it was a free tech preview for them to test out their new lighting model in the source engine. Not a full game. Back in the day did look gorgeous though, still holds up Ok.
