Hey people

I have been having some problems lately. So I am currently running Windows 8.1 Pro 64-Bit but I have been having non-stop problems with it since I upgraded from Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit.

So the problems which have occurred:

  • Battle.net crashes on log in
  • Over half of my steam games don't start
  • Some of my software randomly won't start till I reboot and try again a few times

The interesting thing is I installed 8.1 on my laptop and I haven't had a single problem since install.

So now comes the questions:

  1. Do I reinstall 8.1 and see if I just got a bad install?
  2. Do I go back to windows 8 like before?
  3. or final resort back to Window 7 (Not liking 7 as much as 8)

Hope you guys can help me choose.

because your poll makes no sense - your topic is about the best course of action yet your poll is a list of 3 different operating systems.

it could very well just be interpreted as what OS do you like better.

anyways definitely reformat. something is screwed up. you can spend days tracking down what is causing your issues and never fix it, or spend 2 hours reinstalling your OS + programs.

I would go with 8.1 just because. I'm no fan of the "start screen" or many of the other UI improvements, but just stay on the latest so you stay familiar with everything.

Or option #4, throw on the Windows 10 technical preview.

Reinstall 8.1, but use the key GCRJD-8NW9H-F2CDX-CCM8D-9D6T9 during installation. I assume you have a Windows 8 (not 8.1) key, and the 8.1 installer won't accept them. After installing though, you can use your own key. In fact you must, because this key is very easily available.

I just went back to windows 8 and OSX 10.10. I do have keys for 7,8,8.1 :D

Windows 7 until Windows 10 comes out, after the way the last few windows cycles have been (xp-good, vista-bad, 7-good, 8-bad 8.1 aka 9-ok but slow) 10 should be an improvement, we just need Microsoft to stop trying to copy mac osx's release cycle and not rush things.
