Connecting to a network problem

Whenever I try to connect to a network windows doesn't attempt to connect to it. I will choose my network(doesn't work for any network) click connect then nothing, the window disappears and nothing else happens. This problem has only recently came about. I am using Windows 7.

Any help is appreciated

Just done that, the window still disappears and doesn't try to connect.
