Currently diagnosing a newly built system - no OS installed yet. When powered on, the fans spin up, but keyboards are not detected (no num lock light) and there is no motherboard splash screen on the monitor. I've tried running the system without a GPU installed, with different RAM configurations and checking everything is plugged in correctly to no avail. Any advice?

Motherboard: MSI A88XM-E45

CPU: AMD Athlon X4 860k

GPU: Asus GTX 760 DCUII

PSU: Corsair CX 500M

HDD: Seagate 1TB SSHD

RAM: 8GB Kingston HyperX Fury 1866MHz

Case: Fractal Core 1300

Well you will need the GPU installed since that CPU doesn't have integrated graphics, Try clearing the CMOS, boot with only one ram stick installed and reseat the CPU.

Try clearing the CMOS. Sometime that is all that is needed.

To do this, you just unplug the PC from the wall, and remove the motherboard battery. Then press the power button for a couple of seconds.

Remember to reinsert the battery when you are done.

I have tried all, to no avail. Any other advice? My main suspicion is that the motherboard is running an older BIOS version that is incompatible with this CPU.

It is possible.

Is there any way you know of of checking? If so, is there any way to flash the latest BIOS while the system is unable to POST?

I don't know if you can flash the bios without being able to post. I know Asus boards you can flash the bios without a CPU or Memory installed. You might have to go to a shop and ask them to install a CPU and flash it. I will do some googling and see what I can find.
