OK people of LTT forums, i have been experiencing slow startup and boot downs. When boots up it takes my computer 8minutes approx to boot all my applications i.e(antivirus, steam, sounddrivers) and when booting down it takes around 1minute. So i went to investigate I tried CrystalDiskInfo 5 to check drive health it clearly says 'CAUTION' I check speccy and it says GOOD.

My question is now, how can i fix these sector count errors?

NOTE: It is paritioned, one 400gb and other 600gb, Ive defraged them both but have not formatted 600gb partition in 1year, but i have formatted the 400gb because it hold windows7.

Try defragging your hard drive with Auslogics Disk Defrag or Puran Defrag. Avoid the integrated one. Also you can change the settings on your hard drive by clicking on the status. I.e. clicking on Caution in this situation.

If you use one of those programs, how fragmented is it? Also the registry could be clogged. Have you uninstalled/installed a lot of programs?

Nope, i have not installed/uninstalled much programs. Piriform Defraggler says the HDD is 'GOOD' Drive D (600gb parition) shows 0% fragmentation. Drive C (400gb partition holding OS) shows 10% fragmentation.

How many background programs are running? How much RAM is consumed when going about your daily business?

How much HDD activity occurs when looking at the LED?(if you have one)

at the moment the led stays on for 4-5seconds then stops and just blinks. During gaming it does not blink as much.

This is weird. I have no idea why it's slow.

It does make a slight rattling sound when its reading or writing. But im sure this is what every HDD sound like when on load. I compared this 1tb HD to my dads 500gb HD and his HD seems faster? both HD are WD Greens @ 7200rpm but im sure my dads HD is faster because its 500gb?

Yes. After looking at your edited post, please defrag the hard drive.

OK will do overnight. What software would you recommend to use to defrag?

Piriform Defraggler, Auslogics Defrag, and Puran Defrag are all good programs. Puran Defrag has the added benefit of having the ability to perform a boot-time defrag(which allows it to defrag normally locked files and the registry). You can also set it to shut down afterwards and also use it to schedule a disk check.

I use Puran Defrag as my main defragging program, so if you need help with it, you can post back to this thread or PM me.
