Building my first computer.

Go to solution Solved by Jodomcfrodo,

You're good. It isn't too abnormal for that to happen. Just test it if you think you messed up. We can't tell you and it is easy to find out for yourself.

Well, I just started with building my new computer. And i think i allready messed up :(

First stap, installing the CPU.

1 Open the cpu socket lever and the metal plate will be lifted as well ..... Completed

2 Hold the CPU with your tumb and index finger .... Align the cpu with the golden triangle to the coresponding corner on the socket ..... Completed.

3 Once the CPU is properly inserted, peplace the load plate, ....  the socket cover may pop of from the load plate automaticly.

mmmm, okej, i think i just killed my motherboard and my CPU. I heared a creepy noise, like you slowely are breaking a nut. but, as i folowed the 2 steps before very carfuly, i could not belive i made a mistake there, so i pressed the lever down all the way. the socket cover did not poped off, so i removed it manualy.

Is this kind of normal?? and, is there some way to test it without installing the CPU cooler, so that i not waist all my termal compound?

greets

its normal you hear some cracking noises and it is normal if you have to apply a modest amount of force, anyways check the motherboard pins in case 1 or more are bent

So i just go on with installing the cooler, memory and the powersuply?

I think that's all i need to do a test, isn't it?

when i installed my CPU, i got it all nicely in place but the cooler would not fit on. of after lots of googling i found out i just had to apply like 47 pounds of force, so i did. and it worked out great! xD

Great, my power suply only have a 4pin conector for the CPU, and the motherboard has a 8 pin socket, so, my build need to wait untill tomorrow to get tested, need a new powersuply :(

you can proably just fit in the 4 pin for now, just do some testing with it, so for the moment no overclocking or bench-marking, just booting up. you should be fine, i wouldn't game either until you get a new psu.

Most of the time the 4 pin connector is enough

I could not boot up, the hard disck and cd rom are not yet installed :) but, i could move in to the bios, and everything looked like i think it needs to be, so, i think my CPU and motherboard are still fine, pfff, why does it have to make such a bad sound. It's deafently not a nice feeling, those things cost a lot :P

thanks for the help.

If you could get into the BIOS everything should be all right and there was no damage done! :) Yeah, I agree with you there. When I built a PC for the first time I also thought that there was was a rediculous amount of force needed in order to install a cpu (with that lever thing).
