mightytech
Go to solution Solved by Godlygamer23,

So the richland APU's were released is the UK(Source: http://www.aria.co.uk/SuperSpecials/Other+products/AMD+%28Richland%29+A10-6800K+4.10GHz+%284.40GHz+Turbo%29+Socket+FM2+Quad-Core+Unlocked+Processor+?productId=55739 )

And the A10-6800k has a 8670D GPU in it.

so does this mean The 8000 series is near?

Well from what I've heard I believe their 8000 series will be for mobile devices and will going straight to 9000 series as desktop Gpu's

Like I said I think what we are really waiting for is the 9000 series

8000 though isn't for mobile devices. If you go into Graphics, it says they require an eight and six pin(the higher end ones). They also don't have an M next to them.

Hmmm then I guess my sources are wrong. However I still remember something about skipping to the 9000 series

Yeah. I think the 8000 series is just a re-branding for OEMs.

"AMD Radeon HD 8000 Series Graphics (OEM)" is simply a rebadged of the 7000 series.

I believe I read some official news about AMD skipping to the 9000 series for next-gen desktop GPUs. I'd love to have an HD 9990... haha

HD8000 is a tweaked version of HD7xxx (namely lower and mid-end series, tahiti is not touched) with slightly higher clocks or with some components reworked. It is meant to be for OEMs and mobile. As Genecidalic stated, HD9000s will be for next generation desktops. APU naming conventions for GPU are slightly different from desktops.

I'm hoping the 9000 series is released soon, Nvidia needs competition :o

If that was 100% true then 8000 would be in consumers hands as we speak it might not for sure be called 9000 but it wont be 8000 and it will be pretty beastly it would be kinda dumb for AMD to re-badge while Nvidia made all of the sales and then AMD would go broke so expect an Nvidia killer brand at a low price point.

Internally, the flagship card is referred to as Hawaii and it belongs to the Volcanic Islands family. The card is quite real and is in testing phase. It *has* to come out in Q3/Q4 otherwise AMD will lose business to nvidia simply due to Nvidia having faster cards. Some budget friendly consumers will still pick AMD for their never settle bundle but really the enthusiasts/high end gamers who want high performance no matter the cost will go with nvidia and it's currently very overpriced solution :(

Fulfilling a niche market is not AMD's priority right now with their tight budget and GTX680 was released 6 months after HD7970 debut but we don't see Nvidia losing business to AMD.

At this point its pretty much a stalemate. People have to choose between value (AMD with their Never Settle) vs more speed (nVidia). So yeah I agree with you

Which is why amd sells out nvidia at times.

These APUs are AMD's bread and butter. It's what keeps them able to keep making losses in other areas.

The GPU market is a lot smaller than many people realise. This is why Nvidia has gone into Tegra and god knows what else to make their money.
