For a school related project, its to show ignorant people how a computer goes together. I've already gotten my hands on a dead X79 motherboard, GPU and HDD

I would just tell them how, if you can not find one.

Eh, possible but demonstration is always more comprehensible in my opinion. Especially to people that don't know how to computer.

wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to just build a working rig with a Pentium g2340 and some crappy motherboard lol?

I got the motherboard already without paying so i'd rather pay for a low priced dead cpu than a new motherboard and pentium
