"Single AMD crossfire enabled card". I think you mean to say that the card can crossfire because crossfire can not be enabled with a single card as far as I know. As for the rules for SLI/Crossfire watch this

This is why you should not get an FX CPU for ANY scenario other than rendering on a budget http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/286142-fx-8350-r9-290-psu-requirements/?p=3892901 http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/266481-an-issue-with-people-bashing-the-fx-cpus/?p=3620861

If you run an old Nvidia driver you can use it as a dedicated PhysX card but it wont talk with the AMD card.
and as far as mixing AMD cards it's became a little more difficult to figure out with the name change from 7xxx to R X XXX, I wish I could help you on that but the short answer is maybe, what cards are we looking at?

Long answer:

AMD Radeon R9 290X CrossFire compatible with AMD Radeon R9 290X and R9 290

AMD Radeon R9 280X CrossFire compatible with AMD Radeon R9 280X, R9 280, AMD Radeon HD 7970, and HD 7950.

AMD Radeon R9 270X CrossFire compatible with AMD Radeon R9 270X, AMD Radeon HD 7870 and AMD Radeon 7850.

AMD Radeon R9 270 CrossFire compatible with AMD Radeon R9 270.

AMD Radeon R7 260X CrossFire compatible with AMD Radeon R7 260X and AMD Radeon HD 7790.

AMD Radeon R7 260 CrossFire compatible with AMD Radeon R7 260.

AMD Radeon R7 250 CrossFire compatible with AMD Radeon R7 250.

AMD Radeon R7 240 CrossFire compatible with AMD Radeon R7 240.

Crossfire cards will downclock the the weakest cards specs.

Why do you always die right after I fix you?

It will work for rendering but I don't think it would work for gaming unless you set physx to it
