What cpu should i get?

Now obviously the intel will perform better, but then i gotta get a new mobo too. is it worth it?

Either way, your gonna get a new motherboard because that motherboard you have can't handle a fx 8xxx cpu

Power phase, can't handle the heat that outputted by the fx-8xxx cpu, and VRM( it would go really hot)

you need a new motherboard for both CPU's...the intel i5 is vastly superior and you can find cheap H97 motherboard for it, so that will be in fact the least expensive option...and you don't need expensive CPU cooler and you'll save on power bills.

Also going with an H97 board would give you an upgrade path to a faster broadwell core i7 at higher frequencies for example, with AMD you're stuck...and the single-threaded performance is at the level where intel was over 8 years ago.

Go for the i5. It costs less and will perform better.

 

For an Intel motherboard, I highly recommend you ASRock H97M Pro4 as the board.
