I was looking for some new ear buds for my phone (music source is streaming via spotify).  I run music quite a lot that tends to be more on the low end rather then in the highs.   I have run with sennheiser hd 280 pro, american audio hp 700, and monoprice 8323 (which are a rebrand of Kicker hp 541) for my better pairs of headphones.  I had been using skullcandy ink'd or skullcandy titans because I liked their feeling but their quality was cheap

I was looking at the IE80s linus reviewed and thought those were good since I really like sennheiser, more on the bass end

in line mic would be good.

replaceable cable is a must

pricing $200

the shures are interesting but i hate the hook it into your ear thing. rather have just straight in or wire on top of the ear (with no plastic clips)

I don't know of any detachable cable headphones without the loop around your ear. It severely decreases the stress on the connectors.

Have you tried se215 before? If you haven't you can't say you hate their "mounting mechanism"

The clip is not a clip nor is it plastic, it's a guide that resembles heatshrink I doubt it even puts any pressure on the ear at all.

If your budget is 200, ie 80 already are out of the budget, as they are 300$ +

I have a Shure SE215 and initially, I didn't quite like having to hook it over my ears. Now, I find it more comfortable and secure since weigbt/load isn't borne by the wires hanging straight down, instead the load is borne and spread by the hooks over each ears. Heck, I have gotten so used to it that I have fit the IEM onto my ears w/o really thinking about it.

The SE215, like all other IEMs, must be fitted into the ears snugly in order to get the best sound. Nice mids and decent highs though I would say bass is lacking a little. I use it mainly for pop and more vocal centric pieces.

I had just acquired an ATH-AD700x for my home system, and I am arranging to get a JVC HA-FXZ100 as an experiment since it can hit lower notes. Gosh, audio can be quite expensive!

Your seal must of been bad if you think the bass was lacking a little...

Perhaps, I couldn't quite decide which earbuds to use, perhaps I'd used the wrong ones....still, it could very be my preconception or prejudice against IEM's. No matter which I'd tried, they all come out sounding somewhat thin where bass is concerned. When I'd heard about this JVC HA-FXZ100 sounding very authoritive when it came to bass, I felt I'd to give them (and IEM's in general) one last shot. I should be getting it in a few hours.....let the fun begin! :D I'll have more time to spend with the HA-FXZ100 than with my just acquired ATH-AD700x since I'll be headed to China for some R&R. I'll spend some time with the latter when I get back.
