Exactly how stupid is it to attempt this build for a first one? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/nbTByc

have installed everything but a cpu and/or cpu cooler when it comes to hardware at one time or another but only done upgrades never built from the ground up. Also its been over 10 yrs since I was completely up to date on computer hardware so want to make sure I don't fubar something thanks to old information on quality, misunderstanding on components etc...

use?

Gaming, with some web crawling, light video editing, word processing and movie/tv show watching being

unless you do 24/7 video editing, this rig is overkill

well I didn't want it to wind up barely reaching min requirements for a long time... I take it I over did it?

The "i" version is not a necessity.

If he is into competitive game g, then there is no need for an ips panel.

yes a bit, take a decent i5 and a single 980 and you will have high frames on ultra setting with higher than 1080p resolutions.

Cut the psu, reduce ram to 16gb, adjust storage as you wish...

NOT so future games are going g to utilize more threads so it's better to go for an i7. Another reason to choose is that he will be doing g video editing g and who knows if he changes his mind and wants to do heavy video editing?

you plan a rig for what you are plan to do with it not for what you might want to do.

Gaming, with some web crawling, light video editing, word processing and movie/tv show watching being

And those requirements basically fit perfect on an i5

I was under the impression green's were crap for gaming?

can't change cases, already got the haf x

I prefer to stick with a psu that 1 is from a company I know and 2 got good reviews from several sources I trust...

I have seen those go wrong too many times edit: psu's that is

I have been told their is no such thing as too much cooling so why wouldn't I want as many fans as I could get?

what is g2a?

as for an i5 vs i7 didn't want to have to overclock to get decent gaming out of it. Shrug I have never done any overclocking but saw enough of what it did to chips in the 90's to be worried if I tried it I would have rather expensive paperweight

for the record don't have anything against overclocking and would do it if I was sure I wouldn't fry my computer... and I have now officially been awake for 35 hrs
