Ill make it quick :) Dad just goes through emails, internet, file sharing etc (no gaming at all). Ive already go a HDD and RAM. Nay opinions on what I should change?

  • Intel core i5 3330
  • Asus P8H61-R2 Mini ITX
  • Bitfenix Prodigy (White)
  • Samsung 840 Pro 128 Gb
  • Corsair CX-500 Modular 80+Bronze

My only question is is that power supply good enough for a gtx 570. Its my old card and I might as well chuck it in his computer.

Another question quick question. This is my first time buying a Mini ITX form factor platform, Im not completely sold on it. Are there any negatives compared to Micro ATX because my second option for dad is in a Corsair 350D.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

*Edit, forgot to mention, he just said he will do a bit of video editing and rendering + photoshop.

I just spoke to him again virusal and I just edited the post. He is more of an intel guy. I showed him the AMD stuff and he has had some bad experiences with them. I know now AMD is very reputable but he is a tough man to crack. Thanks for the PSU info :)

Be careful when mentioning video editing, rendering and photoshop. If hes doing more than a little bit of that you'll get people reccomending i7 3770k's and theyre expensive for what looks like a smaller budget, so how much of that stuff will he be doing?

The only problem with micro ATX builds is the amount of expansion. Usually you only get a single 16 lane slot.

Does he want a drive bay? What OS you going for? How much RAM do you have? How large is your HDD?

CPU: i5 3570k                                 PSU: CX650 Corsair                 SSD: 128GB Samsung 840

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance     Case: Zalman Z11                    HDD: 500Gb Toshiba & 1TB Western Digital

MOBO: ASrock Extreme 4 Z77        GPU: GTX 770

I know, he wont need a 3770K/4770K haha. He's doing a little bit, trust me :). Nothing for a business or anything like that. He will have a seagate 1TB hard drive and the samsing SSD. We will be running windows 7, and there already is 8Gb of Corsair Vengeance ram that I already owned

The mini-itx route/build seems fine. You might want to get a 3470 instead of the 3330. It's not a recommendation but it's a possible alternative.

Sweet, for an extra $20 would the higher clock on the 3470 be worth it?

What's your budget?

Also, if you don't have to go mini-ITX, you can probably build something a little better.

The budget is around $500 dollars AUD. He really liked the prodigy, I also showed him a corsair 350D for an M-ATX form factor. I think for him, the Mini-ATX will do the job.

Both the 3330 and 3470 are good. I was just bringing it up if you were thinking of it.
