Bit of help with raceroom racing please?

Ok I've not long installed the game, I'm using a controller atm, but there seems to be some sort of automatic breaking? maybe I need to use manual gears, I'm not sure what it is but my car slows down alot without me using breaks when heading into corners. . . anyone know what this is?

 

also there seems to be some sort of weird picture reset or flicker going on in the video. I can't explain. If you have the game you may know what I'm talking about.
