Unable to stream MKV's to Xbox 360

jinroh10

Hello all, my question today is has anyone successfully streamed MKV's from their PC to the Xbox 360, and if you have please tell me how? Upon several attempts I am prompted by a message stating that the xbox 360 can not read the file. Please help..

Sometimes you can due to MKV being X.264 (open source H.264) and if it's encoded to be almost MP4 it'll work but you'll only have pause/play control, problem is that the Xbox doesn't have the proper software codec for MKV and will likely never so 99.9% of MKV files won't work.

You could always just install Handbrake and encode them into .mp4s yourself.

I find 360s often have trouble even with h.264 though. My brother's will only play .avis I think.
