What are you going to do? Gaming, Editing?

If you only will be gaming on it you wont need more than 8gb RAM, But you are the boss so you can use 16gb if you want.
If i were you i would use 2 4gb sticks to start with 8gb and add another 2 sticks if you feel you need a upgrade.

A 650-700 watt power supply will handle SLI with the 980s But you can get away with a 500-550 if you "only" are going to use one 980.

My Gaming PC

|| CPU: Intel i5 4690@4.3Ghz || GPU: Dual ASUS gtx 1080 Strix. || RAM: 16gb (4x4gb) Kingston HyperX Genesis 1600Mhz. || Motherboard: MSI Z97S Krait edition. || OS: Win10 Pro

Well, The RoG swift is an expensive piece of tech. But it's totally worth it. and for the PSU i'd go for a Corsair AX860i. it's more than enough to keep 2-way or even 3-way SLI well fed. and it's moduar, so you won't have headaches with the cable management.

the first problem you have is a minor one and thats is that the CPU is from the z97 chipset while your mobo is a z87 one, this can lead to your pc not booting but most mobo manufacturers have released a BIOS update to fix it. zo if you dont want to go through the trubble of updating your BIOS you should pick another mobo (sadly there aren't and z97 green mobo's around). secondly, what speed do you want your RAM to be? 1333,1600Mhz? about the powersupply 700-750watt should be enough when you want to run in SLI otherwise around 600w.

the monitor I can't help you with, it's all about personal preferences, Some like vibrant color others prefere quicker TN-panels. thats all up to you.

Johnannes: going with gaming only and going with 16gb just cause i read thats good for gaming and i forgot to put in op but was looking at the dark rock pro 3 for cpu cooling and i;m paranoid about water cooling

Rafmainoff:  thanks will prob go with the 860i and the RoG swift is more of a dream for down the road though if i have the money i'm going to get it

SimleG: not planing to overclock never done it and im trying to be as energy efficient as possible plus

thanks for the fast responses guys

Right now there are not many games that gains more than maybe one or two fps after 8gb 1600Mhz ram,
16gb is pretty much only needed when hosting servers, editing video and streaming right now.

As for the CPU cooling water/air doesnt matter much unless you are going to overclock heavily.

no probs, i'm also planning to build my first PC soon, the these things are only thing i ran into myself when choosing parts for the build, i'm going for a black/red colorscheme myself with the MSI Z97 Gaming 5 and MSi GTX 970 gaming for my build maybe you should look into that because red/black is much more common.

also a tip: RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH..... i'm planning my build since june (saving up money since) and i've looked over the parts I picked regularly see if i had made some mistakes (chipset type like the Z97 thing etc).

Note: i just saw that you didn't list any storage, what are you planning? i'm personally going for the WD Black WD1003FZEX 1tb drive and planning to add a SSD later down the road.

If there is a ''K'' or ''X'' behind the name of an intel processor it means it is unlocked and you can overclock it, non ''K'' or ''X'' processors are locked and cannot be overclocked.

this build I picked is 1109,92 euro's in total but if you have 90 euro's more to spend i recommend the Intel Core i7 4790k.

well spotted, there isn't much difference between the 4770 and 4790 so it won't be a huge difference, i would rather buy the 4770k for the extra 20 euro's if i were you, it gives you the option to overclock.

well i didnt plan on overclocking but if the price different is only 20 dollars where i live then i might get the 4770k for aleast having the option

i'm in the northeastern US but if it's still just a 25USD difference when i start buying parts (its going to be a few months) then ill go with the 4770k

Thanks for all your help Shepard i think i have everything picked out
