Best GTX 970 to use with AIO cooler.

Heiltdo

Hello,

I'm looking to upgrade my 770 with a 970 in a few months but i have a NZXT G10 with its AOI water cooler, i was wondering what brand/model would be good for heavy OC but wouldn't carry a premium for a high performance cooler since it will go to waste.

I'll test it for a month before taking the cooler off so if anything funny happens i wouldn't have voided the guarantee.

An EVGA blower reference card. May not overclock to the limit, but is guaranteed compatible. That, the G1 Gaming card, or a TFV. It's a waste to take the cooler off of one of those though IMO, too good for a Kraken.

Any reference cooler will be compatible. EVGA SC is not really necessary because you'll be overclocking it anyway with an AIO cooler attached. I would recommend the cheapest reference card from a trustworthy brand like Gigabyte or EVGA.

Superclocked cards are not binned, it will OC exactly the same as a normal reference 970.

I thought they were? Arent they?

No, the only cards that are binned are the matrix, classified, kingpin, lightning, and now apparently also there's a "SOC" thing from gigabyte.

Just keep in mind the VRM's on a GTX970 are at the opposite end of the card near the display connectors.

With means you need to rotate the bracket...

They should do a card that is binned like crazy and like 60% ASIC with a ref blower. Or no cooler at all. Fir the watercoolers.

Exactly what SchoolofMonkey said,  on some models of the 970s, (might be all, I don't know for sure) the VRMs are on the opposite side of the card, so be sure that whichever card you get is compatible.  Do research, and when in doubt, go EVGA because they back their products better than any other manufacturer.

My eVGA GTX980 SC has an ASIC rating of 66% on reference blower..lol

Thanks for all the replies, i'll do more research on  that reference EVGA and ask them if they void the guarantee when you remove the cooler.

One last question, is the ACX 1.0 the exact same PCB as the ACX 2.0? the 1.0 version seems to be a lot cheaper.
