Crossfire Bridge Connectors

Ok so I just had a wierd argument with someone who absoloutely insisted that if you crossfire cards with two crossfire connectors on them (even if your using two cards) you should connect them both with two crossfire bridges, as someone who has used Crossfire across various cards I was saying this is not true, however just doing some Google searching there is actually a few people who do it, what I haven't found out is why?

I mean sure if you have three cards it makes sense for the crossfire prongs on at least one of them to both be populated but if you only had two cards why on earth would you use two crossfire bridges?

Perhaps they simply didn't know, or they do it for aesthetic reasons.

Wouldn't it kinda mess with the cards though? As far as I understand they are only meant to be connected by 1 connector and since they are generally quite sensitive I'm surprised two does not cause problems.

I have no intention of doing it myself, I was just curious as to why people would do it. While I have a few crossfire bridges around here I'd rather have as little bright orange/brown sticking out from the rest of my color scheme as possible

It's not needed. Like if you take two 7970s, put two Crossfire bridges on them, and then compare to just one bridge...it won't make a performance difference.
