I have been temporarily using a 5 years old (2x2GB) SuperTalent 1600MHz (CL9) on my new rig while I was waiting for my mushkin black line 32GB, 2133MHz Cl10 1.575V to be delivered, the boot was fast until I installed the new RAM sticks, what I mean by slow is, it takes a noticeable amount of time to start the boot( the beep then ASUS logo appears), I've installed the ram correctly and windows sees it and functions normally, the SSD is fast enough to have instant boot, the thing is, it doesn't START as quick as it used to after the RAM upgrade

Pc specs::

Plextor 770mb/s M.2 SSD, i7 4790k, ASUS Z-97 boardM EVGA GTX 780 SC, Corsair 750W PSU

I think that standard windows can only run at 16GB and for anything over you need the Professional version of windows.

(I have only read this twice so don't take my word for it)

good point. yes in windows 7 Home Premium it only supports 16GB of memory for absolutely no logical reason other than to get more money out of you.

what's even worse is the lowest end version of windows 7, windows 7 starter only supported 4GB of Ram, for no explicable reason.

windows 7 Pro and Ulimate support something like 256 TB of memory by actual software restraints.

also welcome to the forum both of you. I hope you enjoy it here.

if you haven't done so I recommend reading or at least skimming the CoC.  http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/95599-linus-tech-tips-forum-code-of-conduct/

for your information, the biggest mistake people make here is discussing Pirating. that is one topic that is off limits, the rest are layed out in the CoC.

welcome to the Hotel California. you can log out any time you like, but you can never leave!

Whenever you add more RAM, the BIOS/UEFI has to count the total memory available for allocation. Have you tried rebooting the machine a few times?

After the first boot of adding new RAM, it shouldn't take long to boot anymore.
