I purchased a Crossblade Ranger about 2 weeks ago and everything is great besides 1 little thing...  It doesn't like the internet.  Here is what I know:

I use a ASUS PCE-AC68 adapter to connect to the internet.

If the onboard Intel NIC is "Enabled" I can connect to the network, but I can not access anything on the network.  (over the wireless network obviously)

When the Intel NIC is "Disabled" I can connect to the network, and access things on the network with tons of hassle.

When I open up a webpage it will act as if it is loading, but never does.  If I "Stop" the command in the web browser the address bar will go from whatever I had put in it to completely empty.  If I retype what website I want, then it almost always works.

My NAS (WD My Book World) will only connect for about 5 minutes then completely disconnects from the network, but the router still sees it (from within the web admin tool).

This all happened with the change of motherboard-cpu-ram.  As before I had a Sabertooh 990FX and everything work wonderfully.

I am concerned that something with Windows did not install correctly (maybe a .net framework)

All games connect to their respective networks without any issues, it seems anything using a Windows Explorer backbone is all that is effective.  I had installed all of the newest drivers (as of 9/12/2014) but I have noticed 2 updates on ASUS's website before doing this thread that I am going to try as soon as I am done.

Any advice from anyone, thank you very much.

--- Edit:

I am 99% sure this is being caused by AI Suite III's built in traffic monitor.  I been poking around at it and it seems that it was by default turned on, as I had never changed it.  I think that maybe some of these packets were lost as "web browsing" is put on a lower priority than other things.  For example my Battle.net launcher is considered a "game" in the profiles and automatically launches upon PC start up, so there for no matter what "web browsing" is put at a lower priority.

When troubleshooting something, it's always best to simplify things.

So for example, in your case:

1- Use Windows built-in Wireless manager. (they alternative ones usually sucks bug time)

2- Remove any software that manages traffic. (These software usually does a horrible job)

3- Remove any internet security software.

4- Remove any firewall software beside the Windows built-in one.

You also want to try direct wired connection from the modem to the Ethernet, to rule out a system problem at a software level and router.

If you checked out the stuff I posted, the PCE-AC68 adapter doesn't have a management software.  It has its utility, but it doesn't use it to connect to the network, only to enable things like beam forming.

point #2 Ill get to in a second

if you have internet security software that interferes with your traffic, what in the hell are you doing with your life?  Windows' built in Firewall does a good enough job when paired with IE and MSE/Windows Defender that no one should ever have to use anything else.

I don't know why people suggest using a wire like its okay to run a cable through your house?  I'm sorry but it is wireless ONLY, no exceptions.

Okay so what I have noticed:

As I edited to previously state I believe it has to do with ASUS AI Suite's traffic monitor, and as of now it seems to be wonderful.  I updated all the programs (because the 2 updates were to do with the AI Suite III and Game First III, not drivers themselves).  And it got better, at least all the websites I tried didn't require reloading.  So I opened Game First III and just turned it off and almost instantly everything went back to the way it always had been.

But I do want to let people know that Game First II actually did what it was suppose to do, and quite well.  I had noticed WoW didn't DC half as often as before (like I stated during the first post all my games were awesome), it was only my "normal" network traffic that suffered.  So if your someone that does nothing but game, and I know there is tons of you out there, Game First is a essential in my opinion.  Stay tuned for more updates.

PS I know I seemed harsh, I know you meant good.  I just hate people suggesting a cable when what I want is wireless (and even vice-versa)

  • 4 weeks later...

Turned out to be ASUS Game First Software.  So I turned it off, and all my internet problems have went away.
