Hey guys,

I hope I'm posting this in the right section.

So about a month ago I got a buffalo ac 1750 router to replace the router that came with my is parents because of the poor wireless connection my is phone was BT who provided us with the bt home hub 3. I connected the router to the vdsl modem as we have a FTTC subscription so the the lan port of the modem was connected to the wan port of the router and Buffalo automatically set it up through the Web GUI. I just had to enter the username which was bthomehub@btbroadband.com and no password. It worked great and only took 5 minutes. However, the wifi strength wasn't great so I flashed ddwrt after a reset and another one afterwards. So again I connected with the same username via PPPoE to the modem. And it took about 10 minutes to set up. All went well for 5-6 days, when one morning there was hardly any Internet. It was unbearably slow with download speeds of 0.1 mbit downloads but higher uploads of 2-5 mbit. The pings were 20-30ms. However, sometimes speed test wouldn't even load.

We have had engineers over who said that there is nothing wrong with the line and with their instruments they said the line was getting 70 mbit down and 20 mbit up.

I have tried the old router, multiple resets. The modem indicates it is synced with the cabinet. My isp is BT. Sorry I couldn't give a screen shot, I'm posting from my phone.

Thanks in advance and I appreciate any help. We have had not Internet for two weeks now and BT is not being very helpful

So neither of your routers are now working? Have you tried using a wired connection? That can sometimes help, and it'll show where the problem is. When you connect, what's the signal quality like? (5 bars etc). When you're connected, open command prompt and type ping followed by your router ip, which is normally similar to 192.168.1.1, but the last digits often change. eg.

ping 192.168.2.1

then post back the 4 times it gives and the average. This way, we can figure out where in the system your problem is.

Also, try moving it do a different phone socket.

I tried wired connection but it didn't make a difference. The wireless signal was great through the house after ddwrt was flashed but it's just the Internet that is really bad and pretty much Mon existent. I tried to ping the new router yesterday and I will try again now and let you know. BTW thanks for the quick reply, I'm currently tethering so the speeds are not great at least usable.

So I tried to ping the router but it failed and said Ping transmit failed. General error. To add to my misery the router is not responding anyway. Yesterday, I set it up in a Clent mode in order to spread the wireless coverage in my house with a tether which didn't work and now I can't access the ddwrt Web guide. Oddly, it created a wlan which is called ddwrt as default but I can't join the network. Anyway I tried my old router and the Internet is still bad like before. Any ideas guys? It been two weeks since I have watched links tech tips and I hear he is going computex. Anyways thanks in advance.

192.188.x.x is the IP of your router, so if it can't connect, it's either your computer or the router. If you tried a different router, the chances are that the wifi in your computer has died. Do you have a phone etc. that you could use to test it (try visiting the same IP that you pinged and if it said "Connection to the server timed out" your router is dead, and if it loads a page, it's your computer (if you do it on a phone, disable 3G first so it only connects through the wifi otherwise it will probably go quite weird).

Okay so I miraculously managed to get my buffalo ddwrt router back to life. I connected my computer by Ethernet but both wireless and wired connection are poor. The router ip is 192.168.1.1 as default and personally I think the router and computer are fine but it may be the modem or Internet. However, my ISP is saying that our Internet is fine which it clearly isn't. Is there any tests that I can't try out to find what the issue is.

And the pings to the router via wire is very good, less than 1ms for 32 bytes of data.
