Hey guys

Nvidias latest UK price cut made some interesting options for gamers here.

780Ti Gigabyte is £350

970 starts £260 (ref model) and non ref models vary from £280 to £300.

My question: does it worth the 780Ti that little bit extra?

Cards will be watercooled

I would say no.  Going forward the 970 would be a better buy.  With a decent overclock the 970 can match a 780Ti.  With the 970 you don't even need watercooling :P

It will be faster and consume more power. What are you playing on - 1080p, 1440p, surround?

then again 780Ti can be OC-d as well, and it has the Windforce cooler so it is decent, watercooling is just an option :D

power consuming does not matter to me that much

At the moment I am at computer overhauling, so it will run 1280*1024 (lol) for a week, then 3x 1080p monitors will follow

Also, availability  I am planning to make a PC for uni, so I do not need to upgrade it for years, so it will be X99 with 5820K and something SLI down the line probably. with that in mind, is 780Ti still a good buy?

How do you mean less?

For example VR, how does maxwell VR technology ( has a fancy name that I forgot.) helps?

Reduces latency by around half which means you won't get sick immediately whilst using it.

970 is better than the 780 Ti imo, better features, quieter, cooler and you can OC it to meet a stock 780 Ti if you want to whilst still maintaining lower power rates.

the 970 is  nearly as good as the 780TI, but cheaper, and so much cheaper that you can soon get a second one that will kick the 780ti´s ASS, also Maxwell has been shown to OC like a beast, unless you already have a 780ti i would get a 970,

I currently have a 780 and as such im getting a second one very soon when the prices bottom out. otherwise i suggest going with the newer cards.

i would get 970 and then sli them in the future, with 780ti you will get less in the end

two 970 will consume about as much as 1 780ti and you will get more preformance

Both of the cards will be at the same scenarios (eg single card now, then SLI for futureproofing, OC-ing both, WC both) and power consumption does not matter to me nor heat output.

How well does the non ref 780Ti oc-s?

The only thing that actually stops me buying it right away is the VR support, as it seems better with maxwell.. but with high FPS at 1440p single screen (=ocolus rift alleged specs) should not be a problem right? especially with SLI
