SSH (secure shell) options for Windows

Does anyone know any good software or tutorials for setting up secure shell on windows?
I need to access my virtual machine at my school and run a script to install software on it. I would use my computer with Ubuntu for ssh, but my school wont let me access the VPN on linux without going through the IT department (I'm a commuter so I have to use the VPN to get through the firewall). I've heard of Putty, but that's about it. My professors use macs so they haven't offered any suggestions other than very old software I couldn't get to work on windows 8.

I second PuTTY, I use it daily :D
