Well, Shit.

So I am FINALLY getting my mobo today for my new gaming build (I have everything else, so having the one thing I needed to build it was so annoying!)

BUT

I realized- the CPU I bought came with no cooler.

BUT

I have the cooler from my previous computer - off an HP Pavillion using an Asus LGA775 mobo.

SO

Will the older, screw-in cooler work on a new mobo that (presumably) uses the push-in clips? Or has the hole position changed since then, or do they not accept screw-in coolers at all? I'm pretty sure I've seen Linus use screws in a couple of builds, but who knows...

SO

Will it work? I know the power socket is the same type, but I am hoping to god that the cooler fits. I don't want to wait anymore!

HERE IT IS

(not the exact part, but the same concept).

EDIT - I just looked, and it seems the older LGA775 stock fans look the same as the new ones - they even have the plugs. Does this mean they work?

Thanks guys, this sucks.

Can I ask, how the hell would you not have known that your system needed a cooler ahead of time?

Probably purchased an OEM chip without realizing.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Good news:

I finally found a local store (ended up being Best Buy) who has a full Corsair - Hydro Series H100i

Unfortunately it's $100, but since this is running in a tiny Cooler Master Elite 130, it can't hurt :)

Thanks for your help! God knows I would have tried it anyway, and my CPU would be dead...

The Elite 130 doesn't fit a 240mm rad? IIRC
