What do you do on your PC? For most uses, x99 is overkill. Also, x99 isn't a replacement for z97, its a completely different product series.

and what do you mean by work load?

They mean what you use your pc for. It isn't worth upgrading it seems in your case. And no, DDR3 still has a long life ahead of it.

DDR4 hasn't yet rendered DDR3 irrelevant.. it isn;t even close to doing that yet, x99 mobos are overkill for most things and are for people who need the insane performance, although if you are comming from a Z97 with an i7 on it you won't see much of a difference unless you are doing crazy big video editing projects or something similar
