Hey all,

This morning my computer decided not to show anything on screen, the fans spin up, the hard drives start, everything looks fine. First time I turned it off in forever BTW.

What I did to try and fix the issue:

  1. Swap the ram around to see if that was the problem
  2. swap the GTX650 TI boost for a GT620 to see if the psu was dying on me
  3. Also tried to unplug as many drives as possible except for my SSD
  4. Also tried booting from linux on a flash drive
  5. Tried the IGPU of the I7-3770, removed my GPU beforehand
  6. used a usb to sata adapter to check if the drives were defective
  7. Something else I forgot, pressed ctrl+w by accident while typing

Stuff others told me to do and I did:

  1. Changing the CMOS battery/Resetting the CMOS
  2. Pressing keys to trigger reactions----> There appears to be no power coming from the I/O OR the power is intermittent, such as the LED from my XBOX controller flashes/THumbdrives LEDs will turn on
  3. Removing and putting back  the CPU in the socket (did not forget thermal paste)
  4. Changing the PSU, now a 850 G2

Stuff I could not do:

  1. Testing the CPU in another MOBO
  2. Testing the MOBO with another CPU
  3.

What i'm runnning

Pegatron something something OEM HP mobo

Now a 850 G2 from EVGA (before, a 460 Watts OEM Psu)

I7-3770 non-k

Gtx650ti boost (gives me trouble with the core clock locking itself)

2HDDs, 1*2TB 1*320gb both WD drives, over 10k hours of use, + 120gb SSD mushkin, around 8-9k hours

TN4800 wlan card

10gb of ram, 2*4 and 1*2, dont ask, HP

Recently swapped the OEM case to a fractal design R4

Stuff you might need to know:

  1. About 3 weeks ago, I tried folding at home but my CPU went up to 80+ °C so I stopped doing that.
  2. This computer is mostly stuff from the HP pavillion 1213c
  3. It's a bit over 2 years old.
  4. My monitors do detect that something is plugged in.
  5. I've never tried bios hacking/ I've nevr updated the bios on my mobo.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT1:

After getting the new PSU, the issue was not resolved, however, more testing gave me those results

  1. It appears that the HDD lights stop working after the fans are done spinning up.
  2. Pressing the reset button it will sometimes go in a reset loop, making it so that the fans and the computer will start and stop from 1-5 times before going back to idling with everything but the HDD leds on.

I would start with double checking your monitor and cables then.

Also, try holding down a shitload of buttons (NOT the F1-F12 or del or esc) and seeing if you can get a beep out of your motherboard. You need to figure out where the failure is happening. Is the computer not booting properly? Is the signal not being sent? Is the cable bad? Is the monitor set to the wrong input? Is the monitor bad? Etc.

Alright, both my monitors work perfectly fine, plugged them in my laptop, no problem there, however, it seems the I/O is not recieving power, nor does the front usb, but i'm not sure about that part because the LED on my wired xbox controller keeps flashing, I just can't get any power to my hub or anything else for the matter. Tried using an old keyboard and got no response.

When this happened to me it was my faulty BIOS. I could start PC and every LED would light up and every fan would spin but I got no post.

Have you tried resting your CMOS?

I don't have any buttons on my mobo, and I have no idea how I could do that.

Here is the page on the MOBO from HP's website.

If you could help me with that it would be great

EDIT:

Would that be what I would need to do?

This motherboard has a jumper to clear the Real Time Clock (RTC) RAM in CMOS.
c03246643.jpg
  1. Turn OFF the computer and unplug the power cord.
  2. Move the jumper to clear for 5 to 10 secs, then move the jumper back to default.
  3. Plug the power cord and turn ON the computer.
  4. On the next startup, enter BIOS setup to re-enter user settings.

You can do it by removing battery for a while and then put it back.

Or by reseting it trough jumper but that image is quite blury and I am unable to identify where jumper is.

Alright, nothing happened, still nothing on screen

Then I dont know. It was my faulty BIOS when this happened to me but I knew for sure it was my BIOS because I was messing with it too much when it happened. I am really not sure wheter it is your CPU or BIOS thats causing this. It would be best if you could borrow someones else motherboard to try your CPU or get it to some local PC shop and ask them if they could try it for you.

Did you try swapping your PSU it happened with me once and it was the PSU ( it was a cheap one ) but still it was a PSU so give it a try :D

I ordered a new one, hoping that it's the problem, if it is, great, if it's not, well, I still needed a new psu, that 460 watts oem PSU is not a good thing to keep if i'm gonna end und changing the mobo and cpu,

850 G2 in case anyone wonders, and I know, yes, overkill for the build I have but I intend on going SLI dow  the road.

Alrighty, just received the PSU, Unfortunately the issue was not resolved.

I have updated the main post with this information.

Your board is the size of a Micro ATX see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_form_factor will this be a problem as I see you intend buying an ATX size board?

It seems a shame to give up on your original, so you could try these few things.

You could try standard DDR 3 1333 Ram {cheap as chips} these should fit fine.

Try unplugging all HDD and all peripheral cards (in an effort to get the cause)

Can you reach the BIOS in any mode i.e. Video Card out or chipset (Mobo) out?

I guess not, but in my experience bad RAM is the most prevalent cause of no video out, also not booting.

CMOS can manage on it's own (not use system RAM) until it hands over to the operating system (the next stage of the boot sequence, where you seem to fall over).

I have a design R4, it will fit, I don't have extra ram lying around and the cheapest I could pay for ram without ordering online is 83$ for 2gb of ddr2, there is no ddr3, there is no possibility to reach the bios, I already tried unplugging everything.

Might be stupid to ask but did you try a different monitor. i ask because your motherboard would show a Q-code if there was a error if you have a board with a Q-code display. If there was a issue with your mobo or CPU a Q-code would come up.

Both my monitors are currently running from my laptop.

The computer stops doing anything after the fans spin-up, the hdd led does nothing.

I do not have other monitors however, but I highly doubt that would be the cause.
