Is my Gpu dying?

Hey everyone, i apologize in advance if this is the wrong place for this post.

 

I am new to the community, i made an account a few days ago. Maybe it's a coincidence, but i now have a problem!

 

I don't know if this is Cpu, Gpu, Mobo, Ram, or HDD related, but my best guess would be either Gpu or Ram. 

 

System specs:

 

Mobo: Gigabyte Z68MA LGA1155 Micro-ATX

 

Cpu: Intel i7 2600k 3.8ghz

 

Ram: Ripjaw GSkill 2133mh'z 12gb's

 

HDD's: 80gb 7200 rpm Velociraptor and 500 gb 10,000 rpm WD

 

Gpu: Nvidia GTX 550 Ti 2gb Edition

 

Psu:1000w Rosewill 80 Plus GOLD 

 

Case: HAF 912

 

After playing any games for about an hour, my Pc will stutter, then freeze. The computer completely locks up, Alt F4, Ctrl alt del do nothing, Alt Tab does nothing. The only way to fix it, is by hard booting. The audio will sound like short spurts of static, as though the audio is trying to play, but can't. I'm assuming that this is Gpu related, because this morning when i booted up my Pc, it wasn't even seeing my Gpu. Restart, get to desktop, and Nvidia control panel is telling me "Nvidia kernel mode driver crash 337.88". I updated my drivers, and i'm now seeing the crashes. Last night, my Pc was fine. I was playing Metro Last Light on high without problem. I run all air cooling, while idling my Gpu runs at about 45c. My Cpu idles around 38c. While under load, my Gpu usually reaches mid 60's low 70's, and my Cpu is around 50c-70c. There is some dust in the fans, but i keep the fans on both the Gpu and Cpu at max speed. I've caught it once before it crashed, the game started to stutter, so i tabbed out to check the temperature, it was at 60c. When i tabbed out, the stuttering got bad, then went away. 

 

My Gpu is 3 years old, and i've never had any problems this bad with it before. My Pc has crashed due to this at least 3 times now. I read that this can also be Psu or Ram related, i don't see how it could be related to a failing Psu.

Did you attempt reverting to the previous drivers? Also, get rid of any overclocks and check the voltages on CPU, RAM and GPU are all proper.

It sounds like an overheating issue. Use something like HW monitor and keep and eye on all your temps.

 

EDIT: try reverting to previous drivers.

Will revert back to the older drivers, i will let you guys know if anything changes

Update: It seems like reverting back to 337.88 drivers fixed it. I played an hour of Company of Heroes and about a half hour of FTL, without any problems. I am still however, wondering why when i booted up my Pc this morning, before i updated the drivers, why my Pc was using the on board graphics?

It might even be monitor related... Mabye your monitor is faulty and is conflicting with your GPU. Or maybe its the monitor that's dying?

step 1 - test the CPU (use Prime95)

 

step 2 - test the GPU (use Valley)

 

step 3 - try a new GPU or IGPU (take out the GPU, and use the iGPU on the CPU, or motherboard)

 

 

 

optional   step 4 - buy an R9 270 (and try get some free games)

I ran the Prime95 test for about an hour and a half. Everything passed without problem, i also made sure that the cpu load was at 100%. 

 

My Cpu temp peaked at 88c during the test, it averaged around 78c. The peak power consumption was 82.2 watts, the average was 74 watts. I did the "blend" test, so it tested my ram as well. No errors or issues popped up with either of them. I cannot get to the webpage to download the Valley benchmark, so i can't do that right now.

Side note, i intend on picking up a 780 Ti, though i'm not sure if i want to go with the Classified Kingpin or SC edition. I'm not going to be doing insane overclocking, though having the ability to overclock to higher levels, without worry, would be nice. I would consider myself to be relatively inexperienced when it comes to OC'ing.

great news, if she pass Prime95, she can do anything friend 

 

the temps are a bit high on the cpu, you may want change the thermal paste on the cooler 

 

but if prime say is fine, is fine  B)
