Distorted Display

So on random boots, it only happens every day or two, when i start up my PC the display is all distorted... No hardware changes, cables, or anything has been changed when it occurs. It just seems to be completely random. 

 
I'm currently using a DVI to VGA adapter that came with my GPU, Setup if it matters: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/qVnh23

It seems to be solved by shutting down, then booting back up. A restart however doesn't help. 
Any ideas what could be the cause? Adapter, GPU? I know it's not my monitor as i've had other things connected to it and never had a problem with it.
