Considering running my laptop without anti-virus software

As the title says, and I currently have not installed avast! yet.  I don't visit any dangerous sites, but I was wondering how risky this is.

Malwarebytes IS NOT an antivirus. It's a virus removal tool.

So long as you're safe with browsing, don't visit malicious websites, install adblock, and just generally be safe on the internet you should be fine. This includes not downloading untrustworthy software and not torrenting. 

While Avast! is good, I wouldn't recommend it anyways as for the most part it is a huge resource hog. I'd recommend something much more light weight like Comodo or defender.

You should always use one. Malwarebytes is for after you fuck up. I'd suggest buying into a real antivirus like ESET. AVAST! Is pure garbage.

It's by no means the best, but it is more than adequate given safe and responsible internet browsing.

If you go around downloading everything under the sun, clicking on every add, and torrenting god knows what no anti-virus program will prevent the inevitable virus infections or malware. It's up to the user to be responsible in their computer usage, and it is to my understanding that OP is aware of this. You could be fine with no anti-virus software, but it is nice to have peace of mind that there is some means of protection or shielding. I ran defender on my laptop for 3 years, and it never once got infected because I was always careful and responsible with what I did. Sure, defender might not fit everyone's use case, and for people who lack a comprehensive knowledge of computers it might be garbage to them. But to OP, no.

 

If you want a full protection suite with firewall, antivirus, and anti-malware I would recommend comodo. It's great, but much more invasive than defender.
