Should i get the 970?

ONEnONLY
Go to solution Solved by KamiKatze,

The cheapest 'in betwen' solution would be a FX 8320/8350/8370 and the gtx 970. Your motherboard is okay, it has the 990X chipset, i wouldn't give up on that.

The better performing solution would be z97 + 4690K

But your cpu definitley needs an upgrade.

You could get the 970 first and opt for a better cpu later on, which would give you earlier access to good performance but bottlenecks.

Getting the better cpu first would yield only minor improvements.

Getting both at the same time is obviously best.

Hi I want to get this GPU - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5209#ov

its the gtx 970 windforce x3.

CPU - fx 4170 4.2GHz

GPU - 7770

Motherboard -  GA-990XA-UD3

RAM - Vengance RAM 8GB

PSU - Corsair Tx850 it says that i need a

  • System power supply requirement: 550W(with one 6-pin and one 8-pin external power connectors)

Do i have a 6 pin and a 8pin thingy

Case - Coolermaster cm 690 ii

Will everything fit, work, and wont bottleneck? or should i buy a new motherboard and a i5 or should i upgrade to an fx 8350. Or should i just buy the 970 and change nothing?

I would really like to spend the least amount. I would like to just upgrade my gpu.

970 is a good choice but yeah, your cpu will probably bottleneck it quite a bit. an i5 would be your best bet.

The 970 is a good choice, nothing wrong there. The cpu will bottleneck. Personally I'd upgrade to something like and fx 6350 (or 6300 and overclock it, best choice if you're willing to oc) simply because that way you don't have to change your motherboard and the cpu is significantly cheaper. The 8350 wouldn't give a significant benefit over the 6350 in games. The bottleneck would still be partly there but would be very reduced and you could very well put up with it imo. If not, get an i5 4690k and an asus z97-a

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
