Old Boot drive problems

I've noticed that when I'm doing work on my pc and I have the current boot SSD disconnected, the system tries to boot off the HDD thats in there and brings up an old Windows XP bootloader. I used to have multiple copies of Windows xp on that HDD (have since removed them all, mostly i see) but the boot.ini file still exists. How do I completely remove this safely without corrupting things like MBRs or my current Windows 7?

You can try using EasyBCD and see if that will remove the bootloader from the HDD, this won't affect your win7 install considering it's on the SSD (I'm assuming).

Just delete the boot.ini file.... win 7 is no longer using this file for boot....

Be careful playing with XP and 7, once I managed to instal XP on my other drive when my primary drive with 7 was connected and it messed up my 7s and I had to reinstal it.

I dont use XP anymore, never have since i got windows 7. Just the HDD was what used when i was using XP.

ok then deleting boot.ini will solve your issue ;)
