Hello,

I'm a pro-am photographer from Newcastle, UK. I am looking into buying a tablet for quick editing on the go with programmes such as Photoshop and Lightroom. Could anyone recommend a reason not to go ahead and buy the surface pro 64gb version?

Thanks

Surface Pro 2 "might" be announced soon with Haswell chips in them?? From what I know it has better battery life and graphic processing performances.... It's just rumours for now though...

However when it's released, it'll take a long time for it to reach UK shore as the current Gen surface pro has only recently been released

The OS would take up a huge chuck of the drive. I think you'll only have about 23 gigs of usable space because of the OS and recovery partition or something. The battery life is also sub par. For on the go editing you would probably be better off getting some sort of ultra book at least. It'll have basically the same specs as the Surface Pro but with more storage and potentially a better battery life. Definitely wait for Haswell to officially launch and see where prices go and where the performance differences would be. I myself am interested in a Haswell 128gig version of the Surface Pro if it gets made.

General OS navigation was laggy in my experience with one of the surface tablets with win8 Pro, and the battery life is pretty woeful. I certainly wouldn't rely on in for professional applications. You're better off looking at an Ultrabook with an i7 or similar (with touch screen if that's your thing...)

Battery life is fine on the Surface Pro.. it's not great, but fine in reality. It sure beats most laptop and is aon par with many ultrabooks. It has a 4h and half to 5h of battery life.

But I would highly recommend to wait for Haswell version of the Surface Pro. It is expected/guessed to have 7h of battery life with Intel lower power consuming processor, and will also have a bit better GPU, which is always welcomes, especially that we are talking about Intel integrated graphics, so anything helps, helps.

From reviews, and YouTube videos of the Surface Pro, the interface is above and beyond smooth, same for applications. So I don't know what you mean.

I think you got confused with the Windows 8 Pro tablet using ultra crappy touch screens and/or low end Atom processors... hence, not the Surface Pro.

Also, what you guys forgot to note, is that Ultrabooks don't have the digitize pen, which the Surface Pro has (from Wacom). And I think shaunphoto is more interested in that. :)

It is expected and rumored that Microsoft will unveil new Surface generation tablets on June 26 to the 28, at Microsoft BUILD event, including teh free upgrade to Win8 users, Windows 8.1

Laggy? I think you're thinking of the Surface RT. Professional apps shouldn't be that bad. They run fine on my ultrabook with an i5, which is basically the same as the Surface Pro.
