If I use this mother board for SLI and I use the very bottom PCIe slot for the second GPU, how much performance is lost than if I used the one above it? The reason I'm asking is because I want to SLI and have a PCIe Capture card at the same time. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97mxgaming5

Bump

check your motherboard manual, Make sure you use the X16 and X8 slots for your GPU's.

check your motherboard manual, Make sure you use the X16 and X8 slots for your GPU's.

  1. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)

    * For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.

  2. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8)

(The PCIEX16 and PCIEX8 slots conform to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)

    * The PCIEX8 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot. When the PCIEX8 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode.

  3. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)
  4. 1 x PCI Express x1 slot

(The PCIEX4 and PCIEX1 slots conform to PCI Express 2.0 standard.)

So the 2nd GPU is going to have to go in the PCIe x16 (PCIEX4) slot if the Fist GPU is in the PCIe (PCIEX16) and the Capture Card is in the PCIe (PCIEX8). So, that's bad, isn't it?

yes it is put the capture card in 3rd or 4th slot.

Only using one 780 but I want to upgrade.

a 780 will be significantly chocked by a 4x speed slot, i wouldn't do that.

ok

but how come that you can't use slot 1 and 2 for GPUs and put capture card lower?

If I use the top PCIe and the next PCIe x16 for SLI, the last PCIe x16 slot will be covered by the second GPU.

right...and the X1 slot isnt enough for a capture card? ...no knowledge about that sorry.

I think you have to use the very top and very bottom slots. I have that motherboard in my system right now.

Edit: Side note, the LED path lighting looks really nice. I like this board.

Negative, here are highlighted the X8 and X16 slots:

Seriously? That's just retarded.... you purposefully have to block off a slot for sli? What idiot thought that was a good idea? Thanks for letting me know as the "manual" is a joke. Most information I have had to look up online.
