It's not the RAM, I've gotten freezes w/ my old value ram. Not this ram either, ran through 3 passes w/ memtest86. Not the PSU, I just recently replaced that. Not overheating, my cooling is sufficient and temp sensors don't tell me anything overly-high. I've tried a few different registry cleaners, to no avail. I really can't think of anything else.

Sometimes it will freeze for a split second, and the only way I will know is that whatever sound was playing at the exact moment will "buzz" (loop a fraction of a second long sound) for maybe half a second. This mostly happens when doing something high (-ish) load. Total freezes usually happen when I'm watching Youtube videos, but can happen when I'm just sitting at my desktop. The sound buzz, if there is one, will continue indefinitely. Total freezes are more rare. If I get a total freeze, the only way to get out of it is to reset. Also, sometimes I'll get a total freeze, reboot, then 5ish minutes later, another.

Help!

Remember, greasing your RAM can only improve performance by about 17%. After that, all you can really do is spit on your CPU in hopes of a couple percent increase.

My PC used to have this problem back when i had a AMD cpu and it had nothing to do with the CPU it was the power cable on my boot drive was not sitting correctly and sometimes the drive would power down. If the boot drive powers down it will cause your PC to randomly freeze up.

ok. I literally just downloaded it today, though.

Do you still have issues?

Don't know. It happens randomly and I can't predict it. That's why troubleshooting this is so hard.

Yep now it's a waiting game.

...Aaaand, it did it again. Not a total freeze, but a momentary one. Dammit.

It could be DPC Latency which is often caused by bad drivers (commonly with wireless cards). You can check for it by running DPC Latency Checker (I downloaded the one here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/DPC-Latency-Checker.shtml )  in the background. Most the time the bars should be green/yellow. When you get a freeze check the DPC Latency Checker and if there is a large red bar then it means it's High DPC Latency which is causing the freezes. Might not be this but it's worth checking because I had a similar problem before and it ended up being my Wireless Card's driver causing DPC Latency.

OK. I'm trying that right now. I'll get back to you.

Edit: I did so, no freezes but it told me to check device manager. my SM Bus Controller had no driver. Derped around on asus's website, found it and now the latency checker says:

This machine should be able to handle real-time streaming of audio and/or video data without drop-outs.

So...yeah. once again, the waiting game.

Did you have the DPC Latency Checker running when it froze?

yes. using the method described here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itproperf/thread/aa16c25a-9c72-4579-ba02-cea920296271 (scroll down a bit), I've managed to determine that nvlddmkm.sys (part of an nvidia driver) has caused 2042506 useconds (2 seconds) of DPC latency. Now I just need to figure out how to fix it.

The only way to fix it is to try a different driver. Do you remember when you first experienced these freezes? If so you can work out your last stable driver. If you can't you just have to experiment with different drivers.

I can't remember. I'll do my best, and if all else fails, I'll either switch out my 650 w/ my 210 or, probably, just use my board graphics. Really hopeful, because I just bought HL2, HL2 e1&2, and arkham asylum (Steam is awesome).

I'll keep this file updated w/ results. Once again, the waiting game.

320.18-apparently this caused some people to crash, so i'm not even going to try

314.22-had been causing freezes

314.07-got a latency of 2071 usec, no perceptible freeze though. still trying...

-update- I just started playing HL2, and played to the part w/ the generator. No freezing whatsoever. I'm going to stick w/ this unless it happens again.

-update- Still causing rather high latency. I'm going to try 310.90

Is it possible that you've always had freezes or do you remember not having any freezes when you first used your PC?

EDIT: It's worth testing the drivers which were out when you got your PC and seeing if they also have high DPC Latency. If so, something else may be causing your nvidia driver to have high DPC Latency. If not, it's most probably drivers but could still be something else. If those drivers have a high DPC Latency then maybe try setting the power management mode to 'Prefer maximum performance' in the nvidia control panel.

I'm not sure if this will be of any help but I remember of a program that someone told me that will stop you from getting into an infinite loop (freezing)

The program is called jolt

I'm not sure if your problem is a code problem or a hardware problem but if it's a code problem it may stop your freezing.

It will most likely be a graphics card problem or something though.
