First let me ask:

do you have above a 60hz monitor?

if you don't, then this thread has ended right here.

I believe what he is trying to say is that you don't need more than 60 FPS on a 60 Hz monitor so just max the settings out and go from there

...I think.

Just start at ultra and keep going down till you get what you want.  I downsample from 4k with my 2 270x's at ultra with no MSAA and get like avg 40fps.  You should probably be fine at 1080p ultra.

As to what I was saying, yes. :P

@LurzKesh1138. You're not seeing a difference above 60 fps... What you're seeing is likely a placebo.

I don't, but there is a noticeable difference

I can promise you there is not. That being said ultra with post processing and lighting on medium with 2xmsaa.

Your monitor will only put out 60 frames in one second. You could be running 400fps. You will not see more than 60 frames in one second. Try overclocking your monitor. You might be able to push 70hz or beyond.

In fact if your frames are not vsynced to your monitor your imagine will always be worse. You monitor will pick up torn frames and stutters slightly because of varying refresh rate.

I... don't know how to respond to that one. Your mouse is completely independent from your monitor, but, much like your GPU, it is bound to the refresh rate of your monitor.

Perhaps you need to replace the mouse, or toy with your DPI settings?

Im not saying im seeing a difference, i mean in mouse smoothness. Sorry i realize now that i wasn't exactly clear on mentioning that part

That might have something to do with your monitor have a good bit of input lag. Higher frame rates would help but unless the input lag is really awful I don't see it being worth the screen tearing.

How much, if any would it really help? The input lag is still there, I don't see how pushing more frames at a 60hz monitor would help that any, you could honestly make the argument that the screen tearing would exacerbate the problem.

Having your framerate that high is beneficial for dips, but it won't be smoother if your monitor is 60hz.

it is possible for him to notice a slight improvement in terms of how quickly his mouse inputs are reflected on screen, even if he does have only a 60Hz panel. E.g. Lets say the monitor is ready to display an image for a new refresh cycle. If the GPU is doing a consistent 60FPS then each frame may be upto 16.67ms old by the time it's picked up by the monitor. On the other hand if the GPU is rendering at consistent 120FPS then each frame may be only upto 8.33ms old by the time it's picked up by the monitor. So the monitor is not displaying more than 60FPS but in the worst case scenario it is getting access to less outdated frame data. I.e. Less input lag from mouse input to screen. Although smoothness remains unchanged the game may feel responsive.

Because everytime you double frame rate you cut frame latency in half. It's not something worthwhile to chase after but it's a slight help. Huge if you go from 30fps to 120.
