Is Rome 2 worth the $59.95 price tag? My Shogun 2 gets the error 53 on steam and I can no longer play it (believe me I tried every troubleshooting step) The point is I need my Total War fix!!! So.... Should I buy Rome 2 now or wait and see if there is a price drop once CA announces the new Total war at EGX? And has they game been improved much after the 13+ patches or is it still very buggy? I've hear mixed things about its current state. Thanks and let me know!

Rome 2 is great compared to shogun! Mush more diversity and variation, since they are always having changes to multi-player which means they do care about balancing out online. Shogun 2 sits there and makes everything feel the same.

Rome 2 is probably on the level of Empire, as in it's abysmal.  It's built on top of an engine that was first and foremost designed for gunpowder warfare, it has a bunch of fake diversity that shoehorns all of the factions into certain racial groups which all look the same.  Diplomacy is broken and horrible simplified, half the time your friendly neighbors won't even want to trade with you and factions randomly decide whether or not they want listen to you.  And don't get me started on the battles.  Special abilities are a major crux of the game, they should have just taken them all out and make them passive abilities. Pikemen are a joke, they don't carry pikes by default, instead you have to summon them with magic and the officers who were originally in the middle drag their asses all the way to the back, why didn't they just make the officers stand in the back for pikemen then.  All "swordsmen" throw javelins, regardless of what faction or ethnic group they are a part of.  History told us that Romans learned how to use pila in a charge due to the way invading Gauls used them in battle, not Hellenic troops or Eastern troops.  The only good thing this game has going is that they made skirmishers a very viable unit type.

Watch these, they can explain what the hell is wrong with this game in much more detail that words on a screen.  Even though right now is like 10 more patches in, many of these gameplay problems still exist.

I'm gonna steal a quote from a modder, "It's going to take a miracle to fix this game, not mods", Rome 2 is a sham.  Spend your hard earned money on something like Rome, Medieval II, or Shogun 2.  Those are much better, more polished, and more interesting.  Rome and Medieval II with mods are legends in the community.  Shogun 2 has it's flaws but it's the best Total War made post-Empire, it has a very intuitive building system, agents that matter, and it exudes a polish that Rome 2 doesn't.  Also RoTS and FoTS are great additional campaigns that put you in very different circumstances and timelines.
