AMD 9370 Memory Question

I have an AMD 9370, my question is,

If the CPU only supports 1866 memory should I even bother getting 2400mhx Trident X memory. I was gonna purchase this memory today till I started to poke around.

Will the CPU take advantage of it or should I just get 1866mhz memory?

The published specification for the memory support is up to 1866MHz. This essentially the guaranteed speed.

Anything beyond requires overclocking of the Integrated Memory Controller (IMC) within the CPU. Of course, with overclocking nothing is absolutely 100% guaranteed.

From people over the internet, 2133MHz and 2400MHz is quite possible. I'm personally using 2133MHz RAM with my FX-8350.

The performance levels off with higher frequency RAM -- diminishing returns. Due to this, many simply recommend 1600MHz, 1866MHz, or 2133MHz RAM.

AMD CPUs respond very well to ram speeds with low latency. So yes a single set of tridents will do very will due to their speed and lower latency.

 

Stick with a 2x8GB kit for the highest speeds possible and it will require some adjustments to get it working correctly at those speeds.

AMDs IMC can't really use more bandwidth than 1600MHz provides, but as Priller says you could buy a higher speed ram, then set it to 1600MHz and run it at a really low CL (CL7 would be pretty good).

No, it will increase performance as ram speed increases until it begins to fall off when CL has to be loosened up. 2400mhz at CL10 will do the same as long as the IMC will handle it. 

 

I have tested the fall off period with standard ram and latency up to almost 2300mhz.

The FX 9370 officially supports up to 2133mhz.
@Priller is correct, the AMD FX CPUs respond to faster RAM more favorably than equivalent Intel CPUs.

wont make any difference, that said for the same price as a 1866mhz kit i got corsair vengeance pro 2400mhz cl11 for my 8320.
set it to 2133 XMP in bios which is the most i could set, manually set the timings and set the FSB to 225=boom 2400mhz ram
225x21 multi =4725mhz 1.448v
2475mhz northbridge (memory controller and l3 cache) stock is 2200mhz
2475mhz hypertransport (stock is 2600mhz)

could just put it to 2133 on xmp and run a 2600mhz northbridge and hypertransport and have a round number overclock (4500mhz, 4600mhz....)
