For gaming and running blender which would be better?
(In terms of performance and utilization of hardware)

Seeing some game performance of Left 4 Dead 2 on Ubuntu and Windows 8, Ubuntu had about 30+ more FPS than Windows 8 but Ubuntu didn't stay in a small range it might jump from 67fps to 80fps or vice versa.

Would Arch Linux with the Cinnamon UI be more or less optimal than Ubuntu?

Considering your hardware it wouldn't matter tbh.

Ubuntu would be the easiest to set up though.

Shot through the heart and you're to blame, 30fps and i'll pirate your game - Bon Jovi

Take me down to the console city where the games are blurry and the frames are thirty - Guns N' Roses

Arch Linux is better in my opinion because I'm a Unix purist and Arch strives to be very Unix-like.

Ubuntu is better for you specifically though.
