Skyrim question?

I was wondering in Skyrim, if I side with the Imperials or the Storm cloaks, will the other attack me on sight then? Example: if I side with the Stormcloaks, is Solitude pretty much out of bounds?

If they are part of the vanilla game, I believe so. There's also some good mods out there to make enemy factions attack you if you are wearing opposing armor.

So what if you had side quests in Wildhelm and you were Imperial?

No. If you side with a faction, the other will not be hostile to you, unless you're doing a mission for your chosen faction, where you take part in a scripted fight, killing NPC's of the opposing faction. You can enter any city regardless of if you do or don't join either the Stormcloaks or Imperials. Regular guards you see walking about won't be arsed who you are with, unless you stab a chicken. Then they'll hunt yo' ass down and murder you with glee.

In vanilla, opposing factions will only attack during events, or if you wander into their camps and refuse to leave, not if you're simply visiting towns. If you'd like for things like that to happen, please consider an overhaul like SkyRe or Requiem.
