Hello guys, so im deciding on getting either a combination of a core i3 4350 and a GTX 770 (upgrading later to an i5/i7) or a core i5 4670k  with a gtx 760, i considered the i3/770 combo, saving 100 bucks on the cpu, redirect those 100 bucks to the gpu so when i upgrade to a better cpu, have a better GPU already.

Leave you thoughts and suggestions please.

PS: i know this is wrong forum section, but what is a good cpu cooler that can fit into the corsair air 240 (since hyper 212 doesn't fit)

I would get the i5 because that will last for ages, whereas I suspect you would end up wanting to upgrade the i3 quite soon.

As for the 760, it's a great card and CPUs tend to have longer lives than GPU's anyway, so when you upgrade the 760 you can keep the i5.

It kinda depends on which one you want to upgrade first..

Since adding in a second GPU is incredibly easy, I would probably go for the i5 + 760 (or R9-280/285?) combo, because you can later just toss in another 760 (or R9-285) quickly and cheaply (very cheaply if you buy a used card)..

That being said, i3s are very very capable gaming CPUs which won't really be a bottleneck unless you're trying to run the most CPU-heavy games on a 120 Hz monitor. For 60 FPS gaming, an i3 is a great value..

about 1300, including monitor (1080p) Windows 7, fan controller, MOAR FANS. and a premium case

Also, since fans don't really affect performance, it might not be a bad idea to stick with the minimum amount of fans if that allows you to stretch your budget into a midrange i5 (maybe 4590?) and still get the 770..

Don't get me wrong, I like my extra aftermarket fans, but for a rig in which you may sacrifice performance for the sake of fans, it seems wiser to sacrifice some minor thermal performance and aesthetics to get better gaming/productivity performance..

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

Same price as 290 a card which is going to curb stomp the 970. Once again nvidia does another price/performance flop nothing changes.

well then get a 960 a 970 is almost as powerful as a titan

the first ones to launch are the 980 and 970, maybe a few months the 1080p sweetspot GPU will surge

I see 1080p getting phased out soon have you seen all of the 4k monitor price drops

this my first build, going for a bit of a budget. better start at 1080p, then slap in another card for SLI and buy a 4k monitor

Go with a Pentium + R9 290 and then later upgrade to an i5/i7.

i totaly agree with this guy, CPU last a long time a strong quad core is what you need and you'll end up upgrading the GPU soon enough wheter you pick a 770 or a 760 anyway.

That said you should go with an R9 280 instead of the 760 it's a stronger GPU with an extra GB of VRAM and most of the time it's cheaper.
