I always used to do the pillow thing with my office chair, and same as you eventually had back issues.

I recently switched to a Steelcase Cobi Stool, and its been great. Not quite as comfortable, but the support is much better. I also bought my wife a new office chair that is much more comfortable and still provides proper support, but I can't remember what kind it was... Hon something IIRC. It was pretty much the cheapest ($300) high-ish end chair I could find.

I switched from one of those to a Humanscale Different world chair, and my back problems at my desk have pretty much subsided. It's not as cushy and comfy but it definitely supports me the right way and helps keep me more alert at my desk.

I hear Spinalis chairs are good for your back (they force you to sit correctly) but they're expensive and I doubt they're avaliable everywhere.

There's some racing chairs you can look into that help with back problems, I know a lot of people use them and find them extremely comfy.

I'm looking at the Spinalis right now and it looks just as angled back as mine. Mine is pretty uncomfortable if I sit like that

Spinalis is different in the fact that their bottom part stands on some sort of a spring that leans left /right /forward /backward if you sit incorrectly and wants to "eject" you off in such a case. You need to try it to understand, explaining this is kinda hard....

Damn, I got this as an office chair and higly regret it:
nolmyra-poltrona__0152020_PE310348_S4.JP

It's super comfy and also looks cool but it's too low for my desk and my arm hurts after some hours on the table.
Now I'm making and adapter for my old office chair bottom to mount one of these two, I have it laying around on the floor since 4 years, I used it play xbox in the living room:
